Frequently asked questions

Which transliteration rules does this use?

The everyday Latin-script Armenian people actually type: ծ → ts, ց → c, ղ → gh, խ → kh, ժ → zh, ք → q, ու → u. A word-initial ե becomes ye and ո becomes vo.

Why not ISO 9985?

ISO uses diacritics (č, ł and so on) that a normal keyboard cannot type and that domains and social handles do not allow.

Why does the domain drop the hyphens?

.am domains allow hyphens, but a name without them is easier to say out loud and over the phone. If it is taken, try the slug version.

Can it go from Latin back to Armenian?

No — this tool works in one direction, Armenian to Latin.
